Imphal, Nov 13: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Tuesday said that central government has promised that Manipur’s territorial integrity would not be affected in bringing solution to the vexed Naga insurgency.
Singh, who led a delegation to New Delhi, met Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday following protests in the state against the disintegration of Manipur.
The Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has been demanding a special assembly session to take a resolution to protect Manipur’s integrity.
The Chief Minister said Shah has assured the delegation that anything detrimental to Manipur’s interest would never be done in the process of bringing a final solution to the Naga peace process.
“The commitment of the Central government was clearly reflected in the latest public statement of Nagaland Governor and Naga peace talks’ interlocutor R.N. Ravi as well,†Singh told reporters after his arrival from New Delhi.
Urging the people of the state to maintain calm until the central government invites stakeholders for discussion to find a final agreement with the Nagas, the Chief Minister said, “The Home Minister also assured them that all the stakeholders would be consulted before inking a final accord with the Nagas
Singh said the state government will also hold a meeting with the civic bodies concerned in a couple of days.
