SHILLONG, FEB 3: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MDC from Tura Bernard N. Marak has welcomed the Union Budget 2026, describing it as a people-centric budget with a strong focus on empowering local self-governance through traditional institutions, rural local bodies (RLBs), and urban local bodies (ULBs).
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Marak said that traditional bodies must proactively take up responsibilities to ensure that the benefits announced under the Union Budget reach the people at the grassroots level.
“The traditional bodies should take up responsibilities to avail the benefits promised to the people through the Union Budget 2026,” he said.
Highlighting India’s steady economic growth over the past 12 years, Marak pointed to low inflation and sustained reforms as the foundation for achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat.
He noted that initiatives driven by Yuva Shakti, innovation, and inclusivity aim to ensure that every family, community, and region has access to resources, opportunities, and dignity.
Reiterating the Centre’s commitment under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Marak said the government continues to prioritise the welfare of the poor, underprivileged, and disadvantaged, guided by the principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.
“The Government of India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reaffirms its Sankalp to support the poor, underprivileged, and disadvantaged. Inspired by the three Kartavya, the initiatives announced in the Budget seek to accelerate growth, empower communities, and ensure inclusive development,” he added.
