Nongpoh, November 26, 2025 Border areas, whether lying along national or inter-state boundaries, continue to face significant developmental challenges, particularly in road connectivity, access to healthcare, and basic public amenities. In an effort to address these long-standing concerns, Mawhati MLA Charles Marngar has reiterated his commitment to push for accelerated development across the constituency, especially in the frontier villages.
Speaking during an interaction with residents of the Sabuda sector in Ri Bhoi District, Marngar said that although several works are still pending, visible progress has begun to take shape. He informed that multiple road projects have already been sanctioned for construction and that the Mawhati C&RD Block has recently become fully operational. He further stated that eight schools have been constructed and made functional in the border villages to improve access to education.
Marngar also announced the establishment of two new Health Sub-Centres to serve remote clusters in the Sabuda region. The facilities, which will fall under the jurisdiction of Mawlasnai PHC, will be set up at Sabuda and Ummat villages. Additionally, several solar street lighting installations are being planned under the Chief Minister’s Solar Mission, along with other upcoming development schemes.
Responding to criticism from sections of the public regarding his decision to align with the National People’s Party (NPP), the MLA said that his move was not politically motivated for personal gain but intended to unlock greater development opportunities for Mawhati and Ri Bhoi as a whole. He maintained that in India’s political system, constituencies represented by ruling-side legislators often receive faster access to resources and developmental support compared to those in the opposition, and that fact “cannot be denied.”
“If we proclaim love for our land and community while our children continue to suffer without basic facilities, then something is fundamentally wrong,” Marngar remarked, urging people to view development above partisan divisions.
He expressed confidence that united support and sustained political stability would ensure long-awaited growth for the border region.
