Massive tree plantation organised at Lad Mawphlang in Sohra

Shillong, Aug 16: The Lion’s Club of Shillong in collaboration with Department of Forest & Conservation & Meehen Infratech organised a massive tree plantation at Lad Mawphlang, Sohra on Thursday.

Over 700 trees were planted along with the help of the members of the Lion’s Club of Shillong, DFO, school students and general public.

Sohra MLA, Gavin Miguel Mylliem who was the chief guest at the function congratulated the Lion’s Club of Shillong for organising this massive tree plantation programme, which will not only beautify the area but also help in preserving the environment.

Earlier, the President of the Lion Club of Shillong, Lion Dilip Bose offered his welcome address and said that environment protection is of paramount importance and Lion Club is committed to save and preserve environment.

He reminded that temperature is going up in the region and rainfall is decreasing causing imbalance in the environment.

Chairman of Lion Club of Shillong, Dipyan Singh also addressed the gathering and assured that Lion Club would take every possible step to see that tree grows.

He mentioned that many of these trees are of his special varieties in nature, including the Cherry Blossom which will add beauty to the region. The Region Chairman of Lion Club, Lion, H.K Vaid also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the programme.

DFO (T), East Khasi Hills, T. Wanniang who was also present on the occasion, supported the event by providing free samplings.
