Shillong, Apr 11: The Mawhati Block Congress Committee (MBCC) condemned the Assam government for its alleged illegal move by putting up a signboard which read as “welcome to West Kharbi Anglong, Assam” at Sabuda village in Ri-Bhoi district.

“We strongly condemn this action by the Assam government and urged leaders of the state to ensure that the illegal signboard is removed immediately from the village,” MBCC president, D Daminot Sylliang said in a statement issued here on Wednesday.

At the same time, the MBCC in a meeting held recently has also expressed its gratitude to Congress MLA from Umroi, George B. Lyngdoh for taking up with the government the matter related to the illegal setting up of a police outpost by the Assam government at Umru village in the district.

“We are also grateful to Lyngdoh for raising the issues pertaining to the problems faced by the people residing in the inter-state border in the current Assembly session,” Sylliang said.
