Shillong, May 7: PDF MDC from Mawhati, James Sylliang claimed that more than 10 members are supporting his signature campaign to demand for convening of a special session to seek clarification from the KHADC chief PN Syiem on the implementation of a central fund worth Rs 28 crore.

“There are more than 10 MDCs who have given their verbal assurance to support my signature campaign,” Sylliang told reporters here on Monday.

Admitting that he needed the support of at least 20 MDCs, the Mawhati MDC said he is expecting that the number of MDCs in support of the campaign will increase in the coming days.

He also urged the MDCs who are not part of the alleged misappropriation of the central fund to come forward and support the campaign.

Reacting to the recent claim of Syiem that he had already clarified on the implementation of the Rs 28 crore, Sylliang however said that the CEM had failed to justify the need to spend the money only on the Council’s assets.

Sylliang expressed surprise that out of Rs 33 crore released by the Centre, the CEM claimed that submission of utilization certificates was required for only Rs 28 crore. “Does he (Syiem) mean that no utilization certificates are required for the remaining Rs 5 crore,” he asked.

Sylliang said that as per his opinion, the money should have been given for the development of the different constituencies while citing that the constituency of the CEM in Mawsynram also lacks development.
