Shillong, Sept 2: In a community-driven move to strengthen safety and curb crime, the Mawkhar Dorbar Shnong has installed 25 CCTV cameras across key locations in the locality. The initiative, led by Rangbah Shnong Bah Randsom Sutnga, was formally launched on Tuesday.
The Dorbar inspected sensitive areas, including the Shillong Municipal complex and the Smart City Project site near Khasi National Dorbar Hall, where cameras have been strategically positioned to enhance surveillance.
Speaking to the media, Bah Sutnga said the project was made possible through collective effort and contributions from residents. “This is the outcome of unity, because the safety and future of our locality is the shared responsibility of us all,” he remarked.
He added that the CCTV network will not only help deter theft, burglary, and drug-related crimes but also assist authorities in investigations and strengthen community vigilance.
The Dorbar has urged residents to adhere to community guidelines and promptly report suspicious activities. It also appealed to the youth to act responsibly and extend cooperation in maintaining peace and harmony in Mawkhar.
