Shillong,July 12: Meghalaya College Teacher’s Association (MCTA) is against the centre pushing in privatizing education, slammed it as a dangerous move. Also a negligence and apathetic attitude by the State government towards the education sector.
Addressing a Press conference here on Tuesday, MCTA said concern over the privatization of education system in the state; it indicates a negative impact towards the education system in the country in addition to the underprivileged of the society who will no longer have access to education which will lead to high drop-out rate.
The MCTA president, Dr BH Buam said the sinister designs are sought to be legitimized through such action like doing away with long established institutions such as UGC and AICTE and replacing them by such bodies like Higher Education Funding Agency (HEFA) and Higher Education Empowerment Regulatory Authority (HEERA).
As a mark of protest the Association also informed that the state-level conventions to observe “Justice day”for sensitizing the teachers about the issue would be held on July 12 throughout the country.
