MDA delegation to meet Centre soon on ILP-resolution

Shillong, Dec 19: The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government will soon meet the Centre seeking its approval on the resolution passed by the House to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.

After a special Assembly session here on Thursday, chief minister Conrad K Sangma told reporters that since the resolution was unanimously passed in the House, the state government would now move the Centre urging its consideration to implement ILP system in the state.

“We will go to New Delhi at the earliest,” Sangma said while informing that before this, the government would also discuss and take all stakeholders including opposition on board.

The resolution, which seeks inclusion of Meghalaya in the Preamble of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873, was also supported by the opposition Congress.

Terming the passing of the resolution as a victory of the indigenous people, the chief minister said that every citizen of the state have played an important role in the movement.

On the other hand, Sangma said that the state government has taken a lot of steps to also implement the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act including the setting up of the entry and exit points.
