Shillong, Dec 8: The winter session of the Meghalaya Assembly began here on Friday with introduction of five bills in the House.
On the first day of the three-day session, chief minister, Mukul Sangma introduced the Meghalaya Essential Services Maintenance (Amendment) Bill, 2017, the Meghalaya Anatomy Bill 2017 and the Meghalaya Nursing Council (Amendment) Bill, 2017.
The chief minister also tabled a notification relating to Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Rules, 2017.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Martin Danggo also introduced the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya Member’s Salaries and Allowances (Amendment) Bill, 2017 while Meghalaya Taxation Minister Zenith Sangma introduced the Meghalaya Passenger and Goods Taxation Act (Amendment) Bill 2017.
Forest and Environment Minister, Clement Marak also laid the separate Audit Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on the account of the Special Purpose Vehicle Society for Development of the Lafarge Umiam Mining Areas (SPVS), Shillong for the year, 2014.
The Meghalaya Anatomy Bill 2017 provides the supply of unclaimed bodies of deceased persons or any part thereof to hospitals and medical and teaching institutions for the purpose of anatomical examination and dissection and other similar purposes.
Meanwhile the chief minister also led members of the House in paying tribute to former MPs and MLAs who passed away recently.
Former members of the Meghalaya Assembly who passed away recently include, Manirul Islam Sarkar, Probin K. Raswai, Elstone Roy Kharkongor and Herbert Suchiang.
