Shillong, Aug 27: Retaining the seat of Meghalaya Chief Minister, the leader of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), Conrad K Sangma, walks to the tenth Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in the by-election held to South Tura Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) by defeating his nearest rival from Congress, Charlotte W Momin .
The results of the by-poll, which was held on August 23 last, declared on Monday morning hour . The counting of votes started at 8 am.
Conrad Sangma secured 13656Â votes and defeated his nearest Congress rival, who able to secure only 5235 votes, by a margin of 8421 votes.
Mean while by-election was also held at Ranikor Assembly constituency in Meghalaya on 23 August last .
Pius Marwein from United Democratic Party (UDP) defeated its close rival Martin M Danggo of NPP with a close margin of 3043 .
