Shillong May 13:The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved the Meghalaya Labour Law Amendment Bill, 2020 for amending certain provisions of the Central Acts.

The Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday approved the Meghalaya Labour Law Amendment Bill, 2020 to amend certain provisions of the Factories Act, 1948, the Industries Disputes Act, 1947 and the Contract Labour Act, 1970, sources informed.

The objective of bringing the Amendment Bill was to ensure ease of conducting business and ensuring more buoyancy in the economy.

The cabinet has also approved amendment of the Meghalaya Agricultural Produce Market Act, 1980 to help farmers by setting up more regulated markets.

“The government wants to increase the number of regulated markets so that farmers can access and sell their agricultural produces in such markets,” sources said.

The Act provides for better regulation of buying and selling of certain agricultural produces and the establishment of markets in the State of Meghalaya.

The Amendment Bill will be tabled and passed in the upcoming re-assembled budget session of the Meghalaya Assembly which will be held for three days from May 20.
