Shillong, Nov. 25: The Meghalaya Government has announced that the next Cabinet meeting will be convened on 26 November 2025 at 10:00 AM at Ward’s Lake, Nan Polok, Shillong, marking the first time in the State’s history that a Cabinet sitting will be held at a public recreational site.
The decision has generated considerable public interest, with citizens questioning the rationale behind shifting the venue from conventional locations such as the Secretariat Cabinet Room or the Chief Minister’s Bungalow to an outdoor tourist destination. The Government has yet to reveal the agenda for the meeting.
Public reactions have ranged from curiosity to mild humour, with some suggesting that the gathering resembles a “festival-like” exercise for Ministers. Others have speculated whether the move is intended to project informality or promote the site as part of the Government’s tourism initiatives.
While the MDA Government has previously conducted Cabinet meetings in district headquarters to encourage administrative engagement, holding one at Ward’s Lake is unprecedented. Officials noted that this meeting will stand out as a historic event in Meghalaya’s 53 years of statehood.
Further details on the decisions taken during the session are expected to be released after the meeting.
