SHILLONG, Jan 19: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Monday inaugurated a Khasi Traditional Mural at the Rymbai Fuel Station, Mawlai Mawiong Rim, marking 20 years of service by Seng Samla Mawlai Pyllun.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister congratulated the Seng Samla for its two decades of contribution to Mawlai and said that inclusive development remains a core principle of the government. He emphasized that youth are the most critical section of society and noted that traditional youth organisations like Seng Samla play a vital role not only in shaping the future but also in strengthening the present of the state.

Urging young people to make use of various state government schemes designed specifically for youth development, skill-building, and engagement, Sangma said these initiatives provide platforms and opportunities for growth.
“The world today is highly competitive. While constitutional safeguards protect our rights, we must not be complacent. We must prepare ourselves to compete with the best in the world,” he said.

He expressed hope that the 20th anniversary celebration of Seng Samla Mawlai Pyllun would inspire the youth to become agents of positive change in society.

Concluding his address, the Chief Minister said the mural, which showcases Khasi culture and traditions, will also enhance the visual appeal of the area and serve as a vibrant welcome for tourists entering Shillong.

During the programme, memorandums highlighting various concerns and developmental needs of the Mawlai area were submitted to the Chief Minister by the Dorbar Shnong and Seng Samla organisations of the locality.
