Shillong, Nov 22, 2025: Meghalaya has achieved a historic milestone with the completion of its first full-length feature film under the Meghalaya Film Tourism Policy 2025. The Telugu film Baa Baa Black Sheep, directed by Guni Manchikanti and produced by Chitralayam Studios, has wrapped up its entire shoot in the State, marking a major step forward in Meghalaya’s emergence as a national filming destination.
Shot entirely across Meghalaya’s breathtaking landscapes—most prominently in Sohra—the film was completed in a remarkable 25 days. The production became one of the State’s largest creative employment initiatives, engaging nearly 2,000 local youth across various departments. This not only highlights Meghalaya’s growing production capabilities but also showcases the effectiveness of the government’s film-friendly environment.
Chief Minister Shri Conrad K. Sangma lauded the team, noting that the film represents the State’s creative ambition and readiness to support major productions. He expressed pride in the fact that every frame of the film was captured in Meghalaya and that thousands of local young people were meaningfully involved in the project. The Chief Minister also expressed hope that many more national and international filmmakers would choose Meghalaya as their preferred location.

Producer Venu Donepudi praised the State’s supportive ecosystem, streamlined processes, and skilled local workforce that enabled the film to be completed ahead of schedule. He shared that the team plans a multilingual release—including a Khasi version—and extended a formal invitation to the Chief Minister to attend the national premiere in Hyderabad.
The film’s completion comes at a defining moment for Meghalaya, as the State’s Vision 2032 positions tourism and the creative economy as key engines for economic transformation. With its unique terrain, vibrant cultures, and youthful talent pool, Meghalaya is establishing itself as a promising hub for filmmaking, storytelling, and content creation. The Meghalaya Film Tourism Policy 2025 reinforces this ambition by providing substantial financial incentives, simplified approvals through the Invest Meghalaya Portal, and dedicated institutional support to attract large-scale productions.
A crucial pillar in this ecosystem is Hello Meghalaya, the State’s own OTT platform, which has rapidly grown into a cultural powerhouse. With more than 4.4 lakh downloads and over 2 crore views, the platform hosts more than 500 pieces of content, including 83 feature films in Khasi, Garo, and Pnar. It has onboarded over 125 regional filmmakers and more than 300 digital creators, serving as both a streaming platform and a digital repository for Meghalaya’s creative voices.
As Baa Baa Black Sheep, a high-energy crime-comedy featuring eccentric characters and a chaotic chase surrounding Mahatma Gandhi’s lost watch, prepares for its national release, the film stands as a testament to Meghalaya’s growing stature in the Indian entertainment industry. Its successful completion underscores the State’s readiness to welcome bigger productions and its commitment to nurturing a vibrant, inclusive, and globally competitive creative economy.
