Meghalaya enhances coverage under MHIS to treat Covid patients

Shillong, Aug 7: The Meghalaya government has decided to give relief to Covid-19 patients by extending coverage of the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) to all hospitals in the state.

Deputy Chief Minister in charge Health department, Prestone Tynsong informed that the new rates proposed by the department and approved on Saturday will come into effect on August 15.

The new rates proposed for various categories of patients are five.

In the first group, a patient admitted in the general ward without oxygen, the rate per day would be Rs. 7000, another category of patients also admitted in the general ward but with oxygen is Rs 11500 per day.

“A patient admitted in the ICU/HDU without ventilators is Rs. 14000 per day,” Tynsong said.

According to him, a patient in the ICU with non-invasive ventilator the rate per day would be Rs. 18000 while a patient in the ICU with invasive ventilators, the rate is Rs. 20000.

He also said that the government will provide assistance to private hospitals in the state to ramp up their ICU facilities and oxygen plants.
