Meghalaya eyes World Bank support to improve health sector

Shillong, May 15: The state government has sought financial support from the World Bank for strengthening and improving health sector in the state.

Health Minister AL Hek on Wednesday informed that during a meeting with representatives of the World Bank, various schemes and projects related to the health sector were discussed.

He said the meeting discussed how to further strengthen existing infrastructure in hospitals, CHCs and PHCs, and the need to add more facilities for better delivery of health care.

“We have requested the World Bank to extend financial support to the state for improving the health sector and the World Bank has requested us to submit a complete concept paper in June. If everything goes well, by next year, the schemes can be implemented,” Hek said.
