Meghalaya gets youngest minister

Shillong, March 06: First time UDP legislator from Khliehriat, Kyrmen Shylla became the youngest minister in the Conrad Sangma-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government in the state.

The 29-year old Shylla, was among the 11 MLAs who were sworn in as ministers by Governor Ganga Prasad at the Raj Bhavan here on Tuesday.

Speaking to journalists, the young minister said, “I feel good and excited to start performing for my people and especially for the state of Meghalaya. I will take the guidance of our elders and I hope everything goes smoothly.”

Stating that he is yet to know the portfolios to be given to him, Shylla said, his aim would be to do good and serve the people of the state.

“I will try my best to ensure that a youth policy is put in place,” he said.

On the development of Jaiñtia Hills, Shylla admitted that the region needs change and he would do his best to bring that change.
