Shillong, Nov 17: The state cabinet has decided to implement a pay revision for Meghalaya government employees of all categories.
This decision was taken by the state cabinet during a meeting that discussed the recommendations of the Meghalaya fifth pay commission here on Friday.
Under the new pay scale, each lowest grade employee will draw a basic pay of Rs 17,400 per month while the highest grade staff will draw Rs 83,900 per month.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma told reporters after the meeting that the state government employees will start getting revised salary from next month, and the implementation of the pay revision is with effect retrospectively from January 1, 2017.
According to him, various allowances have been also hiked for the employees.
For the current year 2017-2018 alone, Mukul said, the implementation of new pay scale would cause an additional financial burden of Rs 929 crore on the state exchequer.
He said also that arrears for 11 months would be first disbursed at 40 per cent, and the rest 60 per cent will be staggered into two of 30 per cent each.
According to a data as on March 31, 2016, there were there were 68,280 state government employees.
