Shillong, March 8: The Governor of Meghalaya, C. H. Vijayashankar, on Saturday felicitated five kickboxing players from the state who brought pride and recognition to Meghalaya after winning medals at the Asian Pacific Open International Kickboxing Championships 2026 held in Bali from February 24 to 28.
The players were invited to Raj Bhavan Shillong, where the Governor congratulated and honoured them for representing both the state and the country at the international sporting event.
During the felicitation ceremony held in the morning, the Governor presented certificates and gift bags to the athletes as a mark of appreciation for their achievements in the championship. The five players secured medals in different categories at the international tournament, which saw participation from competitors representing several countries.
The medal winners are:
Amegrace Nongbsap (10 years) – Sub-Junior, K-1 Light (21 kg) – Gold Medal
Ozanica Nongbsap (12 years) – Sub-Junior, K-1 Light (28 kg) – Gold Medal
Banshailin Grace Masharing (15 years) – Junior, K-1 Light (45 kg) – Silver Medal
Blaiona Kharmujai (19 years) – Senior, K-1 Light (47 kg) – Bronze Medal
Mewanpyndap Marpan (16 years) – Junior, Low Kick (57 kg) – Silver Medal
Speaking to media persons after the felicitation, the President of the All Meghalaya Kickboxing Association, Samuel Hashah, expressed happiness over the recognition given to the athletes by the Governor.
He said the achievement reflects the talent and potential of kickboxing players in Meghalaya and highlights the dedication and hard work of the athletes in reaching this level of success.
Hashah further added that such recognition from the state government will motivate more young sportspersons to take up kickboxing and compete at bigger national and international platforms.
The felicitation ceremony at Raj Bhavan marked a proud moment for Meghalaya as these athletes continue to bring honour and recognition to the state in international sporting events.
