Shillong, Jan 29: Meghalaya Governor, Ganga Prasad submitted a proposal to the Centre to constitute a holistic paradigm shift from traditional approaches to agriculture to a system tailored to the mountain agriculture ecosystem of Meghalaya.
The proposal was submitted by the Governor to the Centre during a meeting with Union Minister for Agriculture, Radha Mohan Singh at his residence in New Delhi on Monday.
The Governor also submitted another proposal requesting the Centre to provide higher allocation of funds and urged for early release of allocated funds to Meghalaya.
The Union Minister assured of looking personally into the matter, and told the Governor that the state government should also look into proper utilization of allocated funds and that expenditure statements should be sent regularly so that the Central ministry could revalidate the expenditures in a timely manner.
The Union minister also said that Meghalaya has the potential to become an organic state similar to Sikkim.
