Meghalaya govt orders intensive audit of industrial units in Byrnihat

Shillong, Mar 18: As per directions issued by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in a recent stocktaking with officials of Forest and Environment Department, the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) has been directed to perform a comprehensive audit and inspection of all industrial units in Byrnihat in Meghalaya side.

According to an order of the Commissioner and Secretary

Forest and Environment Department This intensive audit must be completed by MSPCB in a week and a report submitted to the Forest and Environment Department.

Earlier the Chief Minister made a comprehensive statement in the Budget Session of the Assembly regarding negative global and national reports and urged coordinated action between Assam and Meghalaya.

He also sent a DO letter to the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma for collaborative action as most of the polluting industries of the red category are in the Assam side of Byrnihat.

Meanwhile, the Assam Pollution Control Board has already initiated action and steps for audit & inspection of their industrial units.

At the same time, Meghalaya Government is also initiating stringent measures to monitor and review pollution on our side.
