Shillong, June 25: Urban Affairs Minister, Hamletson Dohling said that the state government will try to mobilize resources for implementing the massive projects to be taken up under Smart Cities Mission.
Shillong, the state capital, was recently selected as the 100th Smart City after a proposal submitted by the Meghalaya government was approved by the Centre.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Dohling said the state government is still waiting for necessary details of the approval.
However stating that it is clear that the project will based on a 50:50 basis, he said that despite this, the state government do not want to lose such a golden opportunity and would mobilize resources for the implementation of the Smart City project.
“We are lucky that Shillong has been selected by Government of India and we cannot waste such a golden opportunity,†Dohling said.
The 100 Smart Cities Mission was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 25, 2015. Under the mission, the Centre allocates Rs 500 crore for each city for implementing projects proposed by it. This amount is matched with a grant of the same amount by the respective state.
With the selection of Shillong, the total proposed investment in the finally selected 100 cities under the Smart Cities Mission would be Rs 2,05,018 crore.
