SHILLONG, Nov 17: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday announced that the state government will sanction Rs 50 crore to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) within this month to begin work at the Jengjal Airport.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Jengjal Police Station building, Sangma said, “We handed over the Jengjal Airport to the Airport Authority of India earlier this year, and they have submitted a Rs 50 crore estimate to the state government. I am happy to announce that within this month, the government will sanction the amount so that work can start.”
He informed that once the airport is completed, 19-seater Air Alliance aircraft will operate from Jengjal, with priority given to the Shillong–Tura route.
The Chief Minister also revealed that the government is exploring land in Jengjal to develop a permanent venue for mega events.
