Shillong, Nov 4: The Meghalaya government is yet to take a call on putting on hold the enrollment for Aadhaar even as 1,202 persons have opted out from Aadhaar enrolment.
Even the chief minister, Mukul Sangma decided not to get himself registered for getting 12-digit number.
A statement issued by the Meghalaya Peoples’ Committee on Aadhaar (MPCA) said that as on November 3, 1,202 persons have decided to opt out/ withdraw from Aadhaar enrolment since October 30.
The statement said that requests were received from many to extend the date for withdrawal.
“After confirming with volunteers for facilitation, it has been decided to extend the date for submitting letters for withdrawal/opting out upto November 10 at the centres namely, Jaiaw at the office of the KSU, Nongstoin as per arrangement of KSU Nongstoin Circle and Mawkyrwat as per the arrangement of KSU Mawkyrwat Circle,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, sources in the Meghalaya government said that there no decision taken to suspend the Aadhar enrolment and informed that the government did not insist the citizens to enroll for Aadhaar since it is voluntary and not mandatory.
