Shillong, June 25 – Meghalaya police on Thursday arrested seven gangs including surrendered militants of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), who had abducted a man on ransom from Romba Adingre village in West Garo Hills District on Tuesday, police said.
Meghalaya police spokesperson, Gabriel Iangrai said the victim was released on Wednesday upon payment of ransom.
Iangrai said one carbine, three numbers of 7.6mm Chinese made Pistols, four magazines, two live grenades and ammunition, mobile phones and Ransom Money of Rs. 3,26,500 were recovered and seized from the possession of the arrested armed gang.
He said that most of the nabbed armed miscreants are from surrendered militant groups of GNLA and criminal case has been registered in Tura Police Station under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code
