Shillong, Nov 10: Meghalaya achieved their biggest-ever victory in Ranji Trophy history, defeating Arunachal Pradesh by an innings and 446 runs on the third day of their Plate Group match in Surat today.
Arunachal, resuming their second innings at 29/3, were bundled out for 109, having managed only 73 in their first innings in response to Meghalaya’s colossal 628/6 declared.
Meghalaya’s bowlers maintained complete control, with Aryan Borah returning impressive figures of 3/45 in 16 overs. Guest professional Ajay Duhan picked up 2/0 in 1.4 overs, while Aaron Nongrum claimed 2/8 in 6 overs and Akash Chaudhary took 2/29 in 8 overs.
This win surpasses Meghalaya’s previous biggest Ranji margin—an innings and 425 runs against Mizoram in the 2019–20 season.
The match featured several outstanding performances:
Arpit Bhatewara’s second first-class double century (207),
Kishan Lyngdoh’s second century (119) of the season,
Guest professional Rahul Dalal’s maiden century (144) for Meghalaya,
And Akash Chaudhary’s blistering fastest-ever 50 for Meghalaya, including a record eight consecutive sixes.
With multiple standout efforts to choose from, the match officials named Arpit Bhatewara as the Player of the Match.
This victory is Meghalaya’s first of the 2025–26 season, after two of their previous three matches ended in draws and one was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
Meghalaya will remain in Surat for their next Ranji fixture, where they will take on Manipur from November 16.
