Shillong, Nov 18: Meghalaya will take on Mizoram in the final of the U-23 Men’s State A Trophy 2025-26 (Plate Group) in Mohali tomorrow, riding high on momentum after an exceptional run of five straight victories in the tournament.
The U-23 side is the first Meghalaya team across all categories this season to reach a final, marking a significant achievement for the state’s cricketing structure. Extending their support, Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) President Nababrata Bhattacharjee and Honorary Secretary Rayonald Kharkamni congratulated the players and conveyed best wishes ahead of Wednesday’s title clash.
Meghalaya launched their campaign with a commanding 93-run win against Sikkim on 9 November, followed by close and clinical victories over Manipur (by 1 wicket), Arunachal Pradesh (by 8 wickets), Nagaland (by 8 wickets) and Mizoram (by 23 runs). Their unbeaten performance placed them at the top of the group, with Mizoram finishing second to set up a repeat encounter in the final.
Batting mainstay Dipankar Baruah has emerged as one of the tournament’s standout performers, currently ranking second in the run charts with 203 runs. He is also the only centurion in the plate group this season, with his unbeaten hundred in the last match proving crucial in Meghalaya’s win over Mizoram.
Meanwhile, the bowling unit has been equally impressive, with three Meghalaya bowlers featuring in the tournament’s Top 5 wicket-takers:
Manish Sharma – 8 wickets
Gavineal Marpna – 8 wickets
Shavian Blah – 8 wickets
Their consistent performances have been instrumental in Meghalaya’s commanding march to the final.
Meghalaya will now look to carry their winning form into tomorrow’s decider as they aim for the prestigious plate group title.
