SHILLONG, APR 2: Meghalaya has achieved a 94% literacy rate and is now targeting the remaining population to reach full literacy status.
“We need another 38,000 to reach 95% because once we cross 95%, that means it is considered as a fully literate state,” Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said after chairing a review meeting on Thursday.
He said the government will launch a push from April 24 to impart functional literacy and numeracy to the remaining population.
“So, from 24th of April, the different wings of the government will try to pursue this so that we can achieve the cent per cent literacy rate,” Rymbui said, expressing confidence in the state’s ability to reach its goal.
