SHILLONG, MAR 20: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday assured that Meghalaya will maintain peace and security in border areas during the upcoming elections in neighbouring Assam, with close coordination between district administrations on both sides.

Speaking to reporters, Tynsong expressed confidence that the situation along the interstate boundary will remain under control, emphasizing that adequate security arrangements are in place.

“Security will be okay. We will make sure that people of our state are safe, are peaceful and security will always be there,” he said.

He also conveyed optimism about cooperation from across the border, stating that people on the Assam side would likewise remain safe and undisturbed during the election period.

The Deputy Chief Minister informed that the Meghalaya government has already directed all deputy commissioners, particularly in border districts, to stay in constant touch with their counterparts in Assam to ensure smooth coordination and prevent any untoward incidents.

The move comes as part of precautionary measures to maintain law and order in sensitive border regions during the election period.
