Shillong, Apr 10: Meghalaya power minister James K Sangma on Tuesday said that the Assam government has been urged to allow completion of electrification works in two villages under Langpih, one of the disputed areas between Meghalaya and Assam.
The Assam police had stopped electrification works in the area under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana on February 25.
Replying to a Zero Hour notice raised by Rambrai-Jyrngam MLA, Kimfa S. Marbaniang, James said that the chief secretary of Meghalaya on March 29 requested Assam chief secretary to instruct the Assam police to allow completion of electrification works at Mawdiangsnam and Umyiap villages in Langpih area of West Khasi Hills district.
The West Khasi Hills district deputy commissioner on March 16 ordered for resumption of the work but the Assam police of Kamrup district stopped it again.
The deputy commissioners of West Khasi Hills had also taken up the matter with his Kamrup district counterpart on March 22.
James said that a positive response was expected from the Assam government soon to ensure a safe and secure atmosphere for labourers to resume the works in the area.
