Metbah Lyngdoh will resign as minister on Tuesday for Speaker’s post

Shillong, Sept 9: Minister for Tourism, excise, and Water Resources, Metbah Lyngdoh will resign on Tuesday.

“I will resign as minister on Tuesday before filing the nomination papers,” Lyngdoh said.

He is the consensus candidate of the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance for the election to the Speaker’s post, will file his nomination papers on Tuesday.

The election of new Assembly Speaker will take place on September 13, the last day of the ongoing autumn session of the Assembly.

Lyngdoh is the three-time MLA of the United Democratic Party (UDP) from Mairang constituency.

The Opposition Congress has chosen its two-time MLA from Salmanpara constituency, Winnerson D. Sangma.

The Meghalaya Assembly has to elect a new Speaker, following the demise of former Speaker Donkupar Roy on July 28.
