Shillong, January 29, 2026: The Meghalaya Football Association (MFA) on Thursday announced the launch of its own Shillong-based football academy, marking a major step in its ongoing efforts to strengthen grassroots football development in the state.
According to an official statement, the MFA Academy will focus on structured training, long-term player development, and creating a clear pathway for young footballers in Meghalaya to progress through the state and national football ecosystem.
As part of the initiative, the MFA will conduct open trials for boys born between 2013 and 2016 to identify promising talent for induction into the academy.
The trials are scheduled to be held on February 6, 2026, at the MFA Turf, Third Ground, Polo, starting from 9:00 am. Interested players must report on time and carry a valid birth certificate for age verification.

While several football academies already operate in Meghalaya under clubs and private entities, the launch of a dedicated MFA Academy is expected to streamline talent identification and development. The initiative aims to groom players for the state teams across age-group categories up to the senior level, as Meghalaya seeks to expand its presence and competitiveness in Indian football.
