Miscreants lob petrol bomb at UDP legislator’s house

Shillong, Sept 18: Opposition legislator, Paul Lyngdoh’s residence was attacked with petrol bomb by miscreants on Monday.
According to police, a room allotted to the MLA’s guard in his house at Mawprem was lobbed with petrol bomb at around 5 am.
Lyngdoh is the MLA of the United Democratic Party (UDP) from West Shillong constituency.
Police said that the MLA has already filed a complaint suspecting that his political rivals have used “paid goons” to carry out the attack.
“This is the handiwork of my political rivals who have been campaigning in an aggressive style. This is unprecedented and it is a testimony of the fact that money power can lead to a situation to go out of control. I am sure that these are paid goons,” he said.
Lyngdoh also said that on Saturday, a group of people were marching on the road infront of his house and shouted pro-Congress slogans.
He suspected that supporters of his Congress opponent, Mohendro Rapsang are behind this incident.
With the incident taking place just few months before the Assembly election, West Shillong seat is likely to witness a tough fight between Lyngdoh and Rapsang.
The election is scheduled to be held in February-March next year. In the last Assembly poll in 2013, Lyngdoh won by a margin of just 481 votes.

Meanwhile Deputy Inspector General of Police (Eastern Range), Addison Roy Mawthoh along with East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Davis N.R. Marak and SP (city), Vivek Syiem visited Lyngdoh’s house for investigation.
At present two home guards personnel without arms were deployed in the house of the MLA.
Marak said that two police personnel have been deployed.

Stating that investigation is on into the incident, Marak said that so far no one was picked up for interrogation.
