Shillong, Oct 13: The East Khasi Hills Police have swiftly resolved a case involving a 15-year-old girl from Umpling who was reported missing and later found at her boyfriend’s residence.
Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem, IPS, informed reporters that the girl had been in a relationship with the boy for nearly two weeks and had left home voluntarily to meet him.
“We have registered a case of abduction and wrongful confinement, as the boy is an adult while the girl is a minor. The boy is being produced in court, and the girl has been medically examined and safely reunited with her family,” Syiem said.
The SP underscored the crucial role of parents in maintaining open communication with their children.
“Parents have the wisdom of trees. By building a strong bond, they can guide their children effectively and monitor their online activities,” he advised.
Syiem further outlined ongoing police initiatives to enhance child safety, including coordination with local leaders, installation of CCTV cameras in public spaces, guest houses, and business establishments, as well as regular patrolling by police and Village Defense Parties (VDPs). He commended the Shillong Smart City project for supporting law enforcement through expanded CCTV coverage.
He also warned against filing false complaints, referencing recent cases involving fabricated reports by students.
“We urge parents to monitor their children closely and avoid making false reports, which waste valuable time and resources,” he added.
SIT Probing Death of 7-Year-Old Kyrshanbor Kharmudai
Shillong, Oct 13: The East Khasi Hills Police have launched a detailed investigation into the death of seven-year-old Kyrshanbor Kharmudai, who went missing from Nongrah on October 8 and was found dead the following day in the Mawpat forest.
Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem, IPS, said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted and that a post-mortem examination is being conducted to determine whether the death occurred ante-mortem or post-mortem.
“The exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed. The investigation may reveal further details as we are examining multiple angles, including possible financial disputes, mischief, or deliberate actions,” Syiem stated.
He clarified that the child’s death is not being treated as accidental, and that negligence, deliberate harm, or intentional acts have not been ruled out. The SIT is continuing its inquiry to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
