Shillong, Oct 9: The body of a 7-year-old boy who went missing from Nongrah on October 8 was found at around 8:30 am on Thursday at Mawpat, Lum Rumnong.
The boy was playing near his home when he disappeared, prompting a search operation.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem stated that the case appears to be a homicide and has warranted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the matter.
Syiem added that the crime likely occurred elsewhere, and the body was dumped at the recovery site.
This incident marks the second case of a child going missing from Nongrah, following a similar incident involving a 4-year-old girl whose body was found in a construction site.
However, Syiem clarified that the two cases may not be connected, as the boy involved in the first case has been identified.
He said investigation will consider all aspects to determine the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
“It looks like a case of homicide and this warrants a Special Investigation Team to probe into the case since it involves a child,” the East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police said.
Syiem said that the crime was committed somewhere else and the body of the boy was dumped at the place where it was recovered on Thursday morning.
