Nongpoh, September 12, 2025 –
In a bid to highlight the urgent development needs of Umsning town in Ri Bhoi District, leaders of the Umsning Town Dorbar, accompanied by local MLA Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh, met with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Friday.
During the meeting, the delegation submitted several key demands, including the setting up of a proper scientific waste management facility to prevent health hazards and protect the environment, and the construction of a standard football ground to promote sports among the youth and steer them away from antisocial activities.
The leaders stressed that Umsning’s growing population and economic activity require better civic infrastructure and amenities. They noted that a proper football field would encourage more young people to engage in sports and potentially represent the state at higher levels.
On the same day, the Umsning Town Dorbar leaders also met Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong to request improvement of internal village roads to ease the movement of residents and visitors, including traders and market-goers.
Following the meeting, Dr. Lyngdoh reiterated his commitment to transform Umsning into a cleaner and better-connected town, including development of the surrounding villages.
The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister assured the delegation of government cooperation, stating that priority will be given to critical projects first, with further support to follow in phases.
