Shillong, April 4: The Department of Information Technology at Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) organised an outreach programme at Khliehasem village to raise awareness about the growing influence of social media across different generations.

The programme was led by BCA fourth semester students on the topic “Ka Social Media bad ka Jingioh bynta jong ka haki pateng bapher bapher.” During the session, students engaged with members of the local community, highlighting both the positive and negative aspects of social media.

They emphasised benefits such as improved communication and access to information, while also addressing challenges including misinformation, addiction, reduced personal interaction, and its broader impact on daily life among youth, adults, and the elderly.

To make the session more engaging, the students performed a skit depicting real-life situations influenced by social media. The performance conveyed strong messages on digital awareness and responsible usage, and was well received by the villagers.

The outreach programme reflects MLCU’s continued commitment to community engagement and social responsibility, while also providing students with a platform to apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings.

The event concluded with an interactive session, where villagers shared their views and experiences, making the programme meaningful and impactful for all participants.
