Shillong, Mar 10, 2020: A day after a mob lynching incident at Lad Mawlang under Mawkynrew Block, which led to the death of one youth, police have arrested as many as 27 persons on Tuesday.

A case has been registered under several sections in connection with the incident.

Efforts are also on to nab the other culprits. Two persons – one a juvenile, and the other a senior citizen, who were first detained, were released later after verification.

Nine youths, all from Madanrting had gone for a picnic to Syntung village on Sunday, but after leaving Syntung in the evening, a mob attacked them suspecting that they are menshohnoh.

The jeep (ML10-B-0957) they were travelling in was also set on fire.

Two of them were seriously injured, and six others escaped the mob attacked by hiding in a forest in the area the whole night, and they came to the rescue to police on Monday morning.
