Money spent by PM during visit to Meghalaya will not turn into votes: AAP

Shillong, Jan 4: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) central observer to Meghalaya, Rakesh Sinha claimed that money spent by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Meghalaya will not turn into votes as the BJP does not have any foundation in the state.

“It does not matter how many crore of rupees the Prime Minister spent on his single visit to Meghalaya state capital,” Sinha told reporters here on Thursday.

Sinha, who is also the advisor to the Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal was in the city to assess the party’s organizational strength and possibility of contesting the upcoming Assembly elections.

He said that the money spent by the Prime Minister in posters, banners and hoardings being put up everywhere, would not be translated into votes in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Alleging the BJP of being selective, Sinha said that the BJP is pro-industrialists, pro-cooperates, pro-Ambani party.

“It is coming to Meghalaya to show its money power by putting up all these banners and posters. It is trying to influence the people of the state but this will not work,” he added.

Stating that the BJP must first answer the people of the state as to what kind of developmental activities have they done in the state in the past three and a half years, he said that the BJP cannot hide its failures by putting up banners and posters.

When asked if the Congress party will come back into power in Meghalaya, Sinha however said that the Congress party had their chance earlier, and this time around, the people will be giving their mandate to a new political party to form the next government.

Meanwhile Sinha informed that as an observer for the party in Meghalaya, he will submit a report to the PAC of the party which will take a call on whether to put up candidates in the Assembly elections.

Claiming that there were aspiring candidates approaching the party, he said that he is hopeful that the PAC will make considerate decision on the matter.

“I am sure the number of candidates will swell. There are many prospective candidates who are waiting in the wings. The exact number of candidates will be known in a few days,” he added.

Based on the report that Sinha submits to the PAC, decisions will be made which will then be communicated to the state leadership to take a call on the constituencies where they would put up candidates.
