Shillong, March 21: The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Meghalaya, in collaboration with the Meghalaya Farmers’ Empowerment Commission, organised a Monthly Farmers’ Market on Saturday at the parking lot of the Directorate of Fisheries, located opposite St. Edmund’s College.

The initiative aims to celebrate local farmers while providing them with a direct platform to sell their produce. It also offers consumers convenient access to fresh, locally grown products. Strategically situated in a residential area, the market witnessed a steady turnout of visitors throughout the day.

Farmers from across the state—including regions such as West Khasi Hills (Nongstoin), East Jaintia Hills, West Jaintia Hills, South West Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, and East Khasi Hills—participated in the event, showcasing a diverse range of agricultural products.

Visitors had access to a wide variety of items, including fresh vegetables, fish, turmeric, eggs, locally brewed wine, and other farm produce, making the market a vibrant hub for both farmers and buyers from across Shillong and nearby areas.
