Shillong, Sept 3: An FIR was lodged by a mother alleging that her old son was beaten to death by her husband’s niece.
In an FIR filed with Laitumkhrah Police Station here on Monday, the mother of the boy, Maria Khilan Khongsit urged police to book Darishisha Lyngdoh Nongum (the niece of her estranged husband) and those who helped destroy evidences as per law so that justice is delivered to her son.
Pyndapborlang Hubert Khongsit (15), a class X student of St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Laitumkhrah was alleged of suicide in the residence of his father’s sister, Bilda Lyngdoh Nongrum at Nongrimbah West, Block V, Laitumkhrah on August 21.
However, the mother said, “I strongly suspect that my son was badly beaten and murdered by Darishisha Lyngdoh Nongum (daughter of Bilda) as she was also seen by Claron Thabah, Rebecca, Melicia Kshiar, dragging him from the road and slapping, beating him on the 21st August 2018 between 5.35pm -6.30pm.â€
She refuted the allegations that her son had committed suicide.
“The theory that my son hanged himself was made up by some of the members of the family of my estranged husband, Brester Lyngdoh, to cover up the murder Darishisha and they have destroyed all evidences and even damaged the mobile of my son. The window which they said my son hanged himself is very short and he could not have hanged himself from there. Moreover there are no signs or indications to indicate my son hanged himself. In fact the room where he is alleged to have committed suicide is the room of Bilda Lyngdoh Nongum,†the mother said.
In the FIR, she also informed that her son had been staying for the past two week before August 21 in the house of Bilda since she had scolded him for not studying.
According to Maria, she had separated from her husband, Brester Lyngdoh for about a year.
“I did not say much when he stayed there as he (Pyndap) also visits home to see his siblings, and comes to eat whatever food he gets and he told me he would come after the selection they had a room for him while my house is small,†she said.
Maria alleged that she had also gone to the school after getting a call from her son’s class teacher on August 21, where on reaching the school, she found that her son did not come to school on that day.
“I told the teacher and the Principal that my son was staying with his aunt (Bilda Lyngdoh Nongum). Then I called up my sister-in-law (Bilda), who came with her daughter, Darishisha Lyngdoh Nongum. The Teacher and the Principal had told them not to beat him up or scold him but to bring him next day to school for counseling. I dropped them till near Nazareth Hospital and went for my work hoping for next day to be able to counsel my son in the school along with the teacher and the Principal,†she stated in the FIR.
The CSWO has condemned the assault which led to the boy’s death and demanded justice for him.
CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said that the officer in-charge Laitumkhrah Police Station was contacted on Sunday about the incident, and the officer informed that police are waiting for a post mortem report.
