Mother of late police officer seeks CBI probe from CM

Email :34

Shillong, Mar 13: The mother of a police officer who died in January 2015 on Tuesday met chief minister, Conrad K. Sangma and home minister James K. Sangma urging the state government to consider handing over the case relating to death of her son to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Dorothy Marbaniang, the mother of Sub Inspector, late, Pearlystone Joshua Marbaniang also handed over a copy of the appeal made before the Supreme Court to the home minister, who assured her that the state government would look into the matter.

It may be mentioned that Marbaniang, who was the in-charge of Patharkhmah police outpost in Ri Bhoi district, was found lying inside his official quarter with a gunshot on his head on January 24, 2015.

However in its report submitted, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the state government to probe into the incident had concluded that ‘it was a case of suicide’.

Not satisfied with the findings of the SIT, Marbaniang’s mother had in 2016 filed a petition before the Meghalaya High Court seeking that the case be handed over to the CBI.

In its order on March 22, 2016, the High Court however had disposed off the petition stating that so far, the present petition is concerned, with the investigation being complete and report having been submitted to the court, no further order appears requisite.

This petition is therefore, taken as redundant now and stands disposed off, the court had stated.

Following this, Dorothy decided to file an appeal petition before the Supreme Court and she had sought an interim ex-parte stay on the final judgement and order of the High Court.
