Shillong Sept 21: The Congress in Meghalaya is yet to receive an official communication from the party high command in New Delhi for accepting the resignation of former chief minister, D.D. Lapang though the opposition party anticipated that the veteran leader is on the road of ‘no return.’

At a meeting of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chaired by its president, Celestine Lyngdoh at Congress Bhavan here on Friday, party leaders discussed about Lapang’s resignation and issues related to upcoming elections.

“We will speak in detail on Monday in the presence of other senior leaders of the party,” Lyngdoh told reporters.

On Lapang’s resignation, Lyngdoh said, the MPCC cannot comment on this since Lapang had submitted his resignation to the AICC, and no communication has come from the AICC whether it has been accepted or not.

Lapang, resigned from the Congress on September 13, alleging the AICC of phasing out senior and elderly people.

Lyngdoh also said that looking at the body language of press statements, he (Lapang) is on the road of ‘no return.’

Lyngdoh also denied Lapang’s allegations and said that party did not deny ticket or force him not to contest the last assembly elections, since he himself offered not contest by citing ill health. “It was also he himself who requested the AICC to relieve him from the post of MPCC president, and he was not forced to resign,” Lyngdoh said.
