MPWU decides to suspend agitation temporarily

Shillong, Apr 11: Workers under the banner of MeECL Progressive Workers Union (MPWU) have decided to temporarily suspend the proposed agitations after the management has communicated to them that some of the demands would be fulfilled.

The management has communicated that some of the demands such as implementation of Provident Fund under which both employees and employers should contribute at 12.5 per cent each on the wages drawn per month, further enhancement of wages, casual leave of 15 days, earned leave, maternity leave, payment of overtime and medical health insurance service.

The Union expressed its appreciation to the management for looking into the various demands of and urged the management to urgently issue official notifications regarding these commitments.

“While celebrating this victory the Union will, however, continue to strive for realising the crucial demands of regularisation and equal pay for equal work,” a statement issued by the Union said.
