Shillong, April 9: The Meghalaya Motorsports Society (MMS) has officially announced that the prestigious MRF MO-GRIP Supercross FMSCI National Championship will be held in the Northeast for the first time at Madan Kurkalang in Ri-Bhoi district on April 11, 2026.

Speaking at the Shillong Press Club, promoter of the championship Shyam Kothari of Godspeed Racing expressed enthusiasm about bringing the event to Meghalaya. He noted that Godspeed Racing has been organising supercross events for over 22 years, with more than 500 events conducted nationwide across various disciplines.

Kothari said the idea of hosting the championship in the Northeast had been under consideration for several years and has now materialised through collaboration with local organisers and stakeholders.

“Meghalaya is a beautiful state with tremendous enthusiasm among the people,” he remarked.

The championship will feature multiple competitive categories, including junior classes (ages 9–11, 12–14, and 16–17) as well as the Indian Expert Open class for advanced riders. The event will include qualifying rounds, practice sessions and final races to determine winners across categories.

Emphasising safety, Kothari assured that adequate measures would be in place for both riders and spectators, including strict safety protocols and medical support at the venue.

Beyond the races, the event will also host entertainment programmes such as music and band competitions, making it a major public attraction.

Kothari expressed confidence that the championship would be a grand success and leave a lasting impression in Meghalaya. “We are fully prepared and confident that this will be a landmark event in Shillong,” he added.

Meanwhile, Phoebe Dale Nongrum, President of the Meghalaya Motorsports Society, highlighted the achievements of riders from the Northeast, noting that the region has already produced champions who have competed at national platforms.

She said the event would inspire more youth to take up motorsports and help nurture local talent. Nongrum also pointed to the growing interest in supercross across the Northeast and expressed optimism about the sport’s future in the region.

She further extended her gratitude to organisers and supporters for bringing the championship to Meghalaya, calling it a significant step towards promoting motorsports and positioning the state as an emerging hub for the sport.
