Shillong Sept 24: Leader of Opposition, Mukul Sangma slammed the NPP-led MDA government for allegedly violating the State Police Act by resorting to frequent transferring of officers.
Participating in a special motion in Assembly moved by Congress MLA from Mawlai, P.T. Sawkmie in the Assembly here on Monday, Sangma said, “Development cannot take place when the government engages in frequent transfer of officers. How many officers have been transferred? I am afraid that you (government) are violating the provisions of the Act.â€
Seeking to know the reason for the frequent transfer of officers, he asked if the government was asking them (officers) something they cannot obey.
Sangma said that the present government has till now failed to constitute the state security commission (SSC) as mandated by the State Police Act despite this is also link to the administrative of justice.
The former chief minister also brought to the notice of the House on the recent transfer of a director of one of the revenue earning departments of the state.
“I have records for the chief minister to correct things. What was the need to transfer the director? I know and I am told about the reason,†he said while cautioning the government to becareful as the state has vigilant and assertive civil societies.
“Let us not make mistake which will defame the entire political class,†the opposition leader said.
