Shillong, July 12: Mylliem MDC, Teilinia Thangkhiew was on Thursday appointed as protem-Chairperson of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) for conducting an election in the Council to elect a new Chief Executive Member on Friday.
Thangkhiew, was appointed by the Governor as protem-Chairperson after KHADC Chairman, L.G. Nongsiej suddenly resigned from the post on Thursday morning prior to the election of the new CEM which was scheduled in the Council at 2 pm.
Nongsiej submitted his resignation at around 10 am to the secretary of the KHADC’s legislative wing.
Thangkhiew had in 2014 became the first lady member to be elected as chairperson of the KHADC.
Thangkhiew will conduct the election to the CEM and the election be held in the Council on Friday at 11 am.
Infact, the election to elect the new CEM was to be held on Thursday, but it was postponed to Friday following the resignation of Nongsiej.
Two members – former CEM, H.S. Shylla who is the member from Nongkrem constituency and Grace Mary Kharpuri, the MDC from Nongskhen constituency have filed their nominations for the CEM post.
