Dimapur (Nagaland) , August 10: The 16th Dimapur District’s Taekwondo Championship was held in Nagaland to allow youngsters to showcase their skills.
Altogether 110 students from different schools participated in the championship.
Amid various teams, the Assam Rifle team won 18 gold, five silver and three bronze medals and was declared the overall champion of the tournament.
27 students of the Assam Rifles Taekwondo Club, Medziphema, took part.
The teams comprised of 13 students from Assam Rifles Public School, Ghaspani and 14 students from Government High School, Medziphema and SFS Higher Secondary School, Medziphema.
“I am very happy that I was able to participate in the district-level championship. I have won gold. I think this tournament is a great platform for me and it’s a big thing in itself. Now I wish to be able to participate in the state-level championship.” said a participant.
Another participant said, “I play for junior 45 and till now, I have played for two matches. My first match was easy, but the final match was tough. I was injured, but played well and won the game. Now I will play in the state-level championship.”
The selected students will now take part in the Nagaland State Championship to be held at Kohima.
Neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh also hosted the first ever women’s football at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun.
A total of seven teams from across the state took part in the contest, vying for the coveted.
The winner of the league has qualified for the II Division Women’s I-League next season, which will be held soon. (ANI)
