Shillong, Oct 29: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), East Khasi Hills District, on Wednesday organised an awareness programme to mark National Disaster Reduction Day, featuring a street play by students of Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU).
The initiative, supported by members of Aapda Mitra, sought to educate the public on disaster preparedness, focusing on safety measures during earthquakes and other natural calamities, as well as first-aid assistance for the injured during emergencies.
The street play was performed at two prominent locations — Don Bosco Square, Laitumkhrah, and MUDA Complex, Khyndai Lad — attracting attention from passers-by and local residents.
As part of the awareness drive, the students also distributed informative leaflets outlining the Do’s and Don’ts during thunderstorms and lightning, aimed at enhancing public awareness and resilience to disasters.
